You are bidding on a Pentax SMC 500mm, f4.5 lens with box, case, collapsible lens hood and front and rear lens caps. The lens barrel looks new. The optics are clear, no scratches or fungus. However, viewed from the rear of the lens, three specks can be seen in the interior of the lens (see photo). It is being sold "as is" and "no returns".
Current bid is $81 + shipping.

Definitely a steal at the current price, I'm sure it will go much higher. Quite a pristine copy apart from those specks.

It’s a heckuva nice lens in the manual extreme telephoto group. The cases are hard to come by.

*sigh*

It's a lens I've wanted for a couple years, and this potentially would have been a good opportunity to get one at a good price. I figured it would go for more and refused to follow the auction so I wouldn't be tempted to spend money I shouldn't. I have a trio of quality options that get me to 500mm+, so I'm not exactly lacking... but want can be a disturbingly powerful emotion.

Have you used it with your K-1?

Yes, but I’m not very good yet. 400mm+ is a discrete skill, I think, plus I need better support. I had a beater m42 version for a couple years that wasn’t nearly as good. Got this from a member - 1989, apparently.

Keep looking. I paid $500.

I shoot manual-focus 400mm+ a bunch, and not only did it take half a year to really get the hang of it, it takes a couple months - and consistent practice - to "learn" different lenses of similar focal lengths. At least for me.

Almost everything I try with K500 suffers from motion blur. I can sense the lens is good but I’m not there yet, and (like golf) I don’t do it enough to get there.

That's been my experience as well--and especially long MF lenses .

I have on occasion, but it is a bit of hand full as others have mentioned.

I bought one in 2016 but found out very quickly that it's not a lens to be taken lightly! To say it's a big lens is a gross understatement! I had to buy a gimbal. To try using this behemoth without one is pure folly! To take this camera/lens combo out into the field is a real chore and takes a great deal of dedication to the task at hand.

I originally bought it from a guy in Prescott, Arizona for $200.00 with the intention of taking some photos of elk in the coming spring. It was at least as clean as the one mentioned on eBay, but the case was another thing. It was deteriorated like most of them you find. A little super glue and some black leather dye and it looked presentable.

It produced some very nice images, but after a couple of months, it became very apparent that it just wasn't my cup of tea. I sold it for $250.00 and went on my merry way. A good experience all in all, but it's definitely in a niche of it's own.
