My advice to anybody looking to buy one of these older Pentax 6x7 cameras is to insist on documentary evidence of servicing, not relying solely on verbal or written statements by the seller anywhere, or on eBay.

These 1969-vintage cameras are very old, very heavily used and their reliability is increasingly problematic (I am aware of 16 such cameras this year requiring extensive repairs and a few that could not be salvaged). They are great cameras to use when they clearly have been well looked after in the past. Heavily used, beaten-up cameras by professionals do not fall into that category.

The same comments apply to the relatively "newer" Pentax 67 bodies. I am especially concerned about the lack of evidence of servicing and sale-worthiness of Pentax 6x7 / 67 cameras listed in Japan. Returning cameras (and lenses!) to these dealers is an especially vexing and unsatisfactory experience.
