D FA 70-200mm f2.8 $1,109 at Adorama on Ebay, albeit with a small tripod foot issue

Unless you mind this small tripod mount foot problem, I believe this is a great price for the lens. It would be difficult to get it at a lower price than this.

That foot absolutely *must* be replaced if it's to be relied upon to hold the camera and lens on a tripod safely (or even just for carrying). I'd hate to see someone make a great saving, then end up with a damaged lens and/or camera...

A QR plate will not hold that lens on the head.

What kind of strike would break off that lip? Internals must also be inspected. Trip to Precision, out of warranty is required. Lens will be in Japan for weeks and probably cost $600+ to repair.

That's what bothers me too. Of course, it's possible that there was a fault in the casting, but you'd still need a fairly sharp knock to break it off like that... Simply tightening the thumb-screw by hand wouldn't do it.

At the very least, I'd want to shoot that lens an awful lot within Adorama's 60-day warranty period, to check for any issues. I'd be more likely to pass on it altogether, though. I don't think I'd ever be completely happy unless it had a full service...

I have heard stories of castings similar to the foot just breaking off when bumped if there was a bubble in the casting, but even with a "money back guarantee" I would think hard about that one before making an offer.

They will if you send the lens in to a service center.
