This my first really good modern Pentax lens. I use it less now but I still think of it first when I think of Pentax quality.

At that price it's a no brainer. If only it had an aperture ring it would be 'perfect'.

It must have been ExtraDoomed™ for those 1-2 days in October of 2015 when B&H sold them new for $388.

My memory's bad though because when I saw this thread I had thought I had paid $450ish (same price) way back then, and this was the first time I'd seen it that low since. I would have been thrilled to pay $446 for this one...

If you're on the fence you need to do it and reward B&H for giving us great sales like this. If you're not on the fence and you barely know what you're doing but want a fantastic lens you'll find ways of using over and over, assuming you've got a few hundred bucks free, get this lens. It'll do you great.

I think it is just a promo but if it does mean anything is may be a upgrade is coming.

There isn't one on the official roadmap.

Neither were the HD variants of the DA lenses, before they appeared. I know some people don’t consider them an upgrade (recall that they included rounded aperture blades as well as the HD coating) but they were an incremental improvement on their predecessors.

I think they sometimes surprised with "off the map" introductions.
