Pentax HD DA 55-300mm f/4.5-6.3 ED PLM WR RE Lens $315 Amazon
Posted By: MrEarle, 07-06-2018, 01:49 PM

This is the best deal I've seen so far - why does this lens fluctuate so much in price?

well all I really wanted to know was why prices fluctuate nearly $100 up and down over the few weeks I've been coveting this lens. The reviews are pretty fabulous.
A lot of the amazon deals are from unauthorized dealers. Then they start price matching, and the price dips, even from amazon proper.

That's on top of a $40 rebate that Ricoh is running.

I used the 55-300 PLM lens on my K-3 - it focused fast and quietly. And gave great results also!!

Whoa, no reason to go there. People should be able to misspeak, be confused, or disagree about lenses without being accused of trolling.

Only I could start a flame war with a price alert, sheesh, let’s stick to topic people.
When I started following Amazon price, it appeared to be sold directly by Amazon Prime, now is still sold Amazon Prime, but fulfilled by Eagle Camera, not sure this is an authorized Pentax dealer and might be grey market lens. Unless I get confirmation seller an authorized Ricoh-Pentax dealer and intended for sale in U.S.
I would hesitate.

This is a very good lens, especially for the price it normally sells at. Peoples ability to judge and circumstances vary so much that one or two opinions are of little value but this lens has been widely and frequently praised. Of course it is not the 60-250 but is smaller, cheaper, quieter, not SDM and more recent. Those might be reasons to choose it. I am very happy with mine although I have a lot of good Pentax equipment including the DA*300 and the DFA*200.

In general I don't like zooms over 3x with a few exceptions, (Canon EF 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6 L IS USM). I prefer fixed focal length lenses.
But before, you were "preferring" the 60-250mm which is a 4x lens.

The reference was clearly for MrEarle, it is he who asks for news and perhaps wants to buy it, the 55-300 is more compact than the 60-250, but the quality of the 60-250 is better,

but it is not I who buy it. I liked very much the review that made it years ago "Matjazz".

Well, we all love the 60-250 but it makes no sense to compare the 55-300 PLM to that now venerable lens. They do completely different things. I imagine some people have both. Also lets be sure we are not confusing the PLM with the earlier non PLM versions.

let's let this thread die....please. it's a thread for "price watch". Comparing $1200 lens to $400 lens here is off topic, irrelevant.
