You do not see one of these very often. $1953.00, excellent condition with caps. Way too much for me but maybe someone here can afford this wonderful piece of glass.

This lens and its asking price should be a good response to those who complain that prices on high end modern lenses are too high.

I suppose, although what leads to the high price here is not just the quality (although that is real), but the rarity of the lens in question. Certain lenses like this and the FA 200 macro come on the market so infrequently that they command a high price when they show up in decent shape.

(I also think it is reasonable for Pentax to charge above one grand for new, top-shelf primes as well).

I have one and it's difficult to keep it out of the bag simply because there's really nothing else like it! If you're in need of some mindblowing subject isolation then there's your lens. Or perhaps you've left your telephoto and want to get up close and personal with something miles away.. there's your lens (my copy is soooooo sharp)

The only thing I have an issue with is the inflated price due to rarity. It's a bit of a bummer really - what if I accidentally drop it?!

And then there's the Samyang 135/2. It's sharper and has fewer aberrations than the A* but may only lack the colours/character (I didn't really do a side by side comparison due to time but I should have). I would really advise people to buy that lens and only get the A* if money is not a concern (i.e. pro work or deep wallets). I know it's an issue for me!
