FA* 250-600 $6000 in seemingly good condition
Posted By: Clinton, 07-22-2018, 10:45 AM

Folks, I'm seriously holding myself back from hitting the buy it now button. If I didn't already own one, I would today. If you've been in the market, I believe now is the time.

[Serviced] SMC PENTAX-FA* 250-600mm F5.6 IF&ED PZ AF Lens w/Case Filters #0896 | eBay

I have $6,000 in my jeans but my gear lust was sated by the FA*300/4.5. I passed on Ron’s FA*600/4. It feels weird to know I can and also know I’m not going to.

I'm curious what's all over the finish, what the "dirt" on the manual is and what "stain" is on the filter is all about. If I didn't know better I would say it's mold, or oxidization.

Is oxidization an issue with these lenses, even when stored under normal conditions?

Being on the receiving end of some bad eBay lens purchases, I myself would pass without thinking twice about it.

I'm a little concerned about that marking on the outside??? It also says the case doesn't have any lining due to "damage" ? wondering if that means this was stored for a long time and that the foam went moldy, and that is the marks on the outside? Lens fully pulled apart and cleaned. also is ringing a few alarm bells for me.

I'd like one of these for sure, not sure about this one tho.

I inferred that the foam got all dry and brittle so just created dust. I had it happen in my little M-135 leather case where the protective foam layer turned to dust in the case. The foam often does that as it gets older.

That's possible. But the images of the lens itself give me pause. It's simply too expensive to risk it. Ill have to spend my hypothetical fantasy money elsewhere I'm afraid.

The case lining in my Tak K500/4.5 had deteriorated into a fine black dust that got into everything. I sold it to KEH for almost nothing. My K500/4.5 is perfect, but I believe it is 25 years newer than the Tak.

Yes,the foam can certainly breakdown badly, the foam in my case is actually very good, and the my Hood cover is as they describe, slightly sticky on the black vinyl , I guess that's just time and ozone. It's all that mottle on the paint and even the mount, that's a bit of a worry. Still if it's been serviced, could be an absolute bargain, Maybe whoever gets it will be someone here and will let us know.
