$1,953 for A* 135/1.8 (also apparently 12% additional off) at Keh
Posted By: Clinton, 07-30-2018, 06:52 AM

Could be a good opportunity to pick up this lens.

Pentax 135mm F/1.8 SMC A* K Mount Manual Focus Lens {77} at KEH Camera Store

In a related thread, there's a 12% off code which looks like it applies: KEH 12% Off Bargain, Excellent & Excellent+ - PentaxForums.com

Edit:
I just tried it, and the total with discount is $1,718.64

I see some spots in the objective and a smear that may be from poor cleaning. Is this an image of the actual lens?

KEH only uses stock pictures of the lens, so you have to trust what they say the condition is.

That is why I like Robert's Camera, they use the actual item's image.

$1,700 vs. $1,200 D FA*50/1.4

This lens is on my bucket list but I just can’t. K135/2.5 will just have to do.

You could say that your FA 50/1.4 will just have to do also.

This bad boy is limited availability, while the D FA will be available later in the year. I wouldn't wait

Too much money for it imo.
A modern Canon EF 135/2 is less.

Yes, there is a history to it and its f1.8 for whatever it counts, but I just find that I could do better elsewhere with the money.
I'd rather put my $$$ with the new DFA85/1.4 or a DFA70-200/2.8

That's a ridiculous price. I will continue to "make do" with my K135/2.5 or my DFA*70-200.

This is about what they’ve been going for on eBay... with, of course, the added “bonus” that it is from Keh (generally good rep) vs someone unknown on eBay.

In 9+ years on this forum, I have never seen one in the marketplace... I might have missed one but I don’t think there have ever been many.

I’ve been watching this particular one but... despite wanting it, it is so hard to justify at that price. But that is the price of admission at this point and there’s no chance of it getting cheaper in the future. I, like Monochrome, opted to put my budget towards the new 50mm.

I certainly hope that who ever ends up with it posts some photos here... photo samples (especially on modern cameras) are basically nonexistent (which makes evaluating its potential/value even harder to determine.)

By the way, I still absolutely love my F 135mm 2.8, which gives lovely color and out-of-focus backgrounds.

So was this lens made in limited quantity or rare for some other reason to account for the high price? What would you pay for one, Sandy?

edit---
Another thing occurred to me later... I wonder how much KEH paid the previous owner? I'll bet they're gonna make a killing on this lens!

This is truly the only alternative for this focal length in the Pentax lineup. Something to consider - with 1 stop difference between the A* and F lens - perhaps, the only practical difference is 100 ASA versus 200 ASA on digital. And we all know that different is almost nothing.

Of course I do not speak to the other difference - holy grail versus rarity

I'm tempted, as I have the A135/1.8 pegged as my next lens purchase and the KEH price is on par with eBay ones. The only problem is that you can't get actual pictures of the lens KEH has for sale, as I'm looking for one close to mint condition and the KEH is "EX" only.

Also being in Canada I'll end up having to pay import taxes on the lens. So if I did not like it or there was a problem with it, it's really hard to get these taxes refunded if I returned the lens to KEH.
Anyways I'm traveling on and off in the upcoming months, so will wait and see what's available in late October.

I actually looked at it. But I have the legacy lenses I want and adding this would be gluttony. It would just sit in the drawer and be a collection queen.
