That's better than I did when I bought a supposedly dead SDM lens without a hood a few years back. Pretty sad how far these have fallen in value compared to where they once were. This model lens is so amazing on crop!

The dreaded SDM failure. From my own experience with SDM lenses, SDM has hard time achieving or maintaining right amount of power to move lens elements. For some lenses (e.g. 50-135 I believe), it is underpowered, yet for some it is over powered as to not able to stop as it should. It is really dreaded...

The optics and wr are worth it. I'd value that at $400-$450 with working screw drive focus (as he states it is), and $250-$300 if it were manual-only. Go for it.

That depends on the final image format you are looking for. On the K-1, the lens doesn't cover the full frame but you can get a square print that covers a larger sensor area than APSC. With cropping, it also allows me to selectively take vertical shots without the need to rotate the camera body. I find it a great lens for shooting dance recitals, where I can get sharp results without having to pump the ISO way up.

Right on. I shot a wedding ceremony with my K-1 and Sigma 50-150 doing the exact same thing.

Listing has now ended. Not immediately obvious if lens sold or ended for some other reason.

Yeah. Likely cos I pulled the trigger. This will be my back up assuming everything else outside of SDM is ok with this lens. This APS-C 70-200 equivalent is so much lighter and easier to handle I sometimes wonder this lens is clearly devalued. That faulty SDM (that Pentax/Ricoh should have recalled) sabotaged the lens in a big way. My current copy is surprisingly out of the waking up troubles and I devour images from this lens.

Nice that you can have a good back up, and I understand why! This lens is a wonder to me also.

I know. I adore this lens. There is a great sense of confidence and comfort when shooting with this lens. I still weigh the IQ of this lens over all else. Its superb even if it comes down to MFing it.
