Looks like it could have been dug up at the beach almost. At least the listing is honest:

SMC Pentax-A 50mm 1:1.2 Super Fast Lens For Pentax LX, ME Super Etc Cameras | eBay

Always wonder what the story is behind something like this.

How are you removing the old finish, and are you going to leave it this way? Also, how is the glass looking? It appeared an internal element might have had a chip. Is this the case?

Here is the result!

The front lenses seemed to be okay but Rear lenses are with Hard fungus inside the lenses, so I will replace them later, I have a k 50mm f1. 2 with Front lens fungus.

The first Rear lens After diaphragm Was a bit damaged by pre-owner, but Has no influence on Image cause it is in the outer range area.

The missing a lever Was replaced from a a-series zoom lens and it works well.

Full report will came in the next 2 weeks, If I got time for it.

Best regards and special thanks to All who helped me with this project.

Milka

PS: questions are welcome.

Looks like the camera fell in the lake and then when water all dried up someone found it while walking around at the base of the lake. That lens seems to be a corrosion from a water body does and not really banged up in the trunk if you ask me.

This restored version is fabulous.

Wow, really nice work!
Am I the only one who is curious about how a hybrid A/K version of this lens is going to work?

I don't think the optical design changed much if any between the two versions.

I believe the coatings changed quite a bit, at least the reflections look quite different. From what I understand there were some optical tweaks also, but one can't be sure.
I know it's the same design philosophy behind each optical element or group, so I'm sure it will be fine. But I'd still like to see it

Hey, here are some pics, out of camera, taken from the lens (front and back) and by the lens.
The rear lenses bring some blur, it Looks more soft then my A50F1.2 copy, even when the aperture is closed to F11 (see landscape Picture).
Not that bad, but I will replace the lenses to finish my Project,

The design may not have changed much but there's a 5mm or so difference in distance between front and rear elements between my A and K copies. I've forgotten which is the longer lens, but the A series copy is seemingly sharper.

Also, as silly as it sounds, please check that all elements are oriented the correct way. The appearance of the images looks like a 'soft' focus lens so there's a slight chance one of the elements is sitting backwards causing spherical aberrations.

The lens Body of the A Version is longer but lenses and lens construction might be the same.

.... No they dont. They are Not the same. Just nearly the same.

Looks pretty. I love the silver ones. Seemed that you got the genuine rubber Ring on focus. Mine Was... You can See it on the Ebay pictures . The pieces of the hardened rubber where badly connected to the Body by using glue. I had to clean it for about 1hour. Now I am using a rubber Ring from a nikon lens, cut it to the same dimensions.
