I attempted to buy one... Weird error however. I'll see what happens.

That's a very good price and a well-featured product. A tripod with this sort of weight capacity (8kg/17lb) that folds up to 12" (30cm) and extends to 5' 8" (173cm) is an appealing travel option. The quick setup looks good too.

But to my mind even 1.4kg is more than I'd want to carry as a travel tripod. Take a look at these ones too as they fold up to a similar size but weigh only about 1kg (2lb) including head:
Sirui T-005SK T-0S Series Travel Tripod with B-00 Ball SUT005SK
Sirui T-25SK T-0S Series Travel Tripod with B-00 Ball SUT025SK
Slightly smaller capacity (13lb/6kg) but still plenty for most travellers. Lower max height (4' 6"/136cm) but that's the trade-off. I got the CF one recently and it's an engineering masterpiece. Good quality ballhead too.

For someone who just want a good deal, the MeFoto is compelling. For someone really interested in getting a great travel tripod, the Sirui T-025X, now replaced by the T-25SK, is a much better option.

I'm grateful to you for the recommendation in the recent thread on travel tripods.

Handled the MeFoto in a trade show, actually. It's less robust, seems more prone to vibrations, and the head is significantly cheaper. It's not bad, and at the greatly reduced price it's a good deal, but it's not the best choice..

That's helpful. Aluminum is typically not as dampening as carbon for sure.
