Preorder for Australia customers for GRIII... $1350! GRII $669!
Posted By: BruceBanner, 02-21-2019, 08:44 PM

Welp! $1350 for the GRIII! Honestly that's like twice what I thought it might be... I mean they're flogging the GRII for $669 (great price, possibly lowest I seen it).

I get that the GRIII is the successor, more features etc, but c'mon... it's a replacement for a model... i was expecting $900AUD tops!

I don't get it, but a KP and a lens for cheaper...

This niche device is just too expensive imo.

What does everyone else think? Good time to snap up a GRII!

Premium product, Bruce, they don't care about the absolute numbers sold, just the margins on the ones they do.

I'm sure the launching price will not be the price a couple of years from now, or the 15-20% discount at various times, but for now I'm happy with my GR II.

I fixed your title. It said perorder, when it should have said preorder.

I've paid the early adopters tax. With that and a DA*11-18 I hope there are no more new releases for a while!

Camera prices tend to decrease over time, so that the camera manufacturer can smooth out production and even out profit margins and have some price drop reserve in case the demand is insufficient or in case a competitor offer a similar product at a lower price. The price regulates the demand. For customers, decreasing price is always welcome, increasing price is always disliked, that is why starting with a high price and adjusting the price based on actual demand for the product is a very common pricing approach. If you have a strong desire to get a GRIII now, you'll pay the price, otherwise you'll wait until the price is right for you.

Yeah, I'm probably comparing GRII exit prices from GRIII entry, which is a little unfair. However I don't think I have ever seen the GRII go for more than $899AUD here. I wonder what price it fetched on it's initial release? I see the GRIII is $899USD (decent) £899 (ouch!) and then we have it $1350AUD, which feels better than UK price imo but still quite a steep conversion from USD. I woulda thought maybe something like $1050AUD or $1099AUD max would be more appropriate conversion

On today's currency rates USD899 = AUD1267 and EUR899 = AUD1437

No too outlandish.

In Vietnam, the GRIII would cost the astronomic price of 25 000 000 VND*.
(*) Subject to daily fluctuation of the currency exchange rate

The price should be given in equivalent hours of work, to give a better idea of how expensive/inexpensive it is.

No too outlandish.
And add $90 USD in GST if purchasing online, and add any state taxes in the US if comparing, as well as lose local warranty and support.

Won't make sense.

Yep, good point. My pre-order is AU$1227 before GST. Very competitive internationally.
