Missed Aussie Easter discounts
Posted By: K2 to K50, 04-24-2019, 09:00 PM

Despite having a registered account with both Ricoh Pentax Australia and C R Kennedy, with email news option ticked, and despite regular visits to both sites and Pentax Forum sites before and during Easter, and doing frequent deals searches, I still did not become aware of the now found 15% Easter Sale here in Oz!!!

Only found out about now - 25/4/19!!! Too late.

What is a fellow desperate to upgrade from K50 to K70 and 1 or 2 good lenses, but limited pensioner budget, supposed to do???

Give them a call on Friday and tell them what you just told us.
Please post the outcome.

It was announced here on PF as well, so keep an eye out.

Wait until the next sale. CRK has had 15% and 20% (eBay – dcxpert) discount sales in the past year.

Yeh, Paul the Sunman: but like I said: "despite regular visits to both sites and Pentax Forum sites before and during Easter, and doing frequent deals searches" I still missed it!!!

RobA_Oz, What do I have to do to make sure I don't miss such things again?? Thinking specifically of June/July financial year sales.

Have you tried using the promo BUNNY?
You just never know unless you give it a go. Or give them a call and explain. If they are willing to give a 15 % discount over Easter then they just might give you the same discount on a K70 and a couple of lenses.
Do you really mean business?

Have added this thread to my Bookmarks, and will check daily!!

BROO: Yeh, defintely ready to go: as you can see from my signature, I have a heap of legacy 1970's lenses. Also have an old Pentax-M auto bellows kit with slide copier (and a heap of old slides screaming to be digitized!!).

Even if I have to add it to the mortgage (with immediate redraw available) or take a lump sum from my Pension Income Account, I want that jump from 16 to 24 megapixels, plus at least one good modern lens - maybe the Pentax HD DA 16-85mm ED DC WR and maybe even the Pentax 1.4 teleconverter.

Birds, flowers, insects my main interests

---------- Post added 04-24-19 at 10:48 PM ----------

That monster Pentax D FA 70-200mm f/2.8 ED Lens with 15-20% off would also be very tempting even if I have to replace my current tripod with a slight looseness in the top!!!

Just FYI there is a new 70-200 mm f 4 scheduled for release later this year. Compact design and presumably cheap.
I would give the KP some serious consideration too.
I have the email news option too and didn't receive a thing.
CR Kennedy are a reasonable bunch. I would be surprised- if you explained the circumstances- that they wouldn't offer you the discount.
Good luck

Thanks BROO:

Only point of hesitation is wondering what the Pentax 100yr anniversary might bring in November!!

But then I suppose every Pentax owner is wondering about that!!!

There's just $100 difference between the K70 and the KP bodies on the CRK website ($85 with the 15% discount) - so as another poster mentioned the KP would be worth serious consideration. It is an amazing camera and well worth the extra $$ IMO

I would be thinking a new model ASP-C camera would be a pretty good option for you but it would be relatively expensive. If you can get a camera now that satisfies your needs then why wait?

Saving my pennies for November.

I have the DFA* 70-200 f/2.8, and it's a brilliant lens. But I'm sure the more compact upcoming f/4 version will appeal to many.

1. I'm with CarlB. Get the KP rather than K-70. It's a way superior class of camera. Better AF, better metering, more durable, better construction, better SR, excellent high-ISO and host of extra features. You'll need to get an L size handgrip though.
2. The 70-200 would be a beast to lug around. And for birds you want more reach anyway. If you are going to lug that much weight, consider the DA*300 + TC instead. Or the DFA 150-450. Or for a more lightweight, portable, versatile affordable alternative, just get the DA 55-300 PLM. It's a very good lens too.
3. The 16-85 is quite expensive. Consider the DA 18-135 instead. It's amazingly cheap if bought in a bundle with the camera.
4. I've bought many things from CRK. I missed a sale once too and when I explained they offered me the same deal.

Oh, boy.

You guys are great for taking so much interest in my situation, but not so kind bringing up the K70 vs KP, just when I thought I had long ago decided on that one. But OK, in the overall picture, the price difference in bodies IS small, although there seem to be more body + lens bundle options with the K70, on both the RICOH PENTAX and C R Kennedy sites. From reading in other threads (including the comparison site mentioned. The stronger body and better image processor of the KP are non-trivial considerations, I must admit. I cannot imagine the ISO differences to be of much use day to day, though.

Yes the 16-85mm IS an expensive lens, especially when considering the longer reach of the cheaper 18-135, but I sort of felt I really wanted to ensure really good IQ with at least one modern lens for my main interest area of close-ups of flowers and insects. (Have I mentioned I also own a legacy set of 3 extension rings to aid in close-ups?)

Perhaps combining that (the 16-85mm) with the 55-300 + TC for bird photography, and my legacy film lenses (28mm, 85mm, 200mm, and 50mm Macro) should cover me, and I can try and resell the K50 with the 18-55, 135, and Sigma 100-300 to help defray the costs of the KP(?? K70) and the 16-85mm?

I am assuming that there is a significant IQ difference between the 18-135 and the 16-85, based on PF test reports and comments I have read from other PF posters??

Any comments on IQ of the SIgma 100-300 (which I own) vs HD PENTAX 55-300mm F4.5-6.3 ED PLM WR RE Lens??

Finally, my comment about waiting until November for the 100yr celebrations was more in the hope of big discounts rather than the possibility of a new camera. But that would mean a wait of some 7 months before getting my new toys, and I am getting very itchy re no more waiting!! (at 75yrs of age, waiting for anything seems a bad waste of time!!!)

And thanks, everyone, for comments and suggestions. Will let you all know what happens.

If anyone is wanting to give further advice re this vs that lens, or best lens combo to buy with a new KP, here is a link to the kinds of photos I have taken with the Pentax K50 and, mostly, the much-maligned 18-55mm lens.

https://www.pentaxforums.com/gallery/?u=117437

This will give an indication of my main interests. Was still adapting to my first digital camera experiences with most of these shots, so hadn't yet learned the finer details of how to control aperture on the K50 for where better depth of field was needed.
Was mainly "pointing and shooting" and hoping for the best, except for learning how to make the K50 work with the 1970's Pentax M F4 200mm manual focus lens.
