K-S2 body $300, w/ 18-135 $450 - from Ricoh
Posted By: phillydad, 05-16-2019, 10:36 AM

Saw on Ricoh Imaging Facebook post -
"This Throwback Thursday is the K2-2 released in 2015! As a special treat we have a limited quanitity of KS-2s available on our website! Get yours before supplies run out."

Link: Product Specials Archives - Ricoh

$300 for body
$450 for body/18-135, or body/18/50/50-200

I don't see an option to add Pentax extended warranty (not sure if these are still a thing)

Do these have the Aperture block issue like K50?

Very tempting, flippy screen and wi-fi will be handy.

I'd be seriously interested if they had one in Sahara trim.

If you are concerned about that issue just buy it with a credit card that extends the warranty or get the extended warranty that also gives a free cleaning and firmware update.

It is.

They also had some pretty good deals over the holidays with the two lens and tripod K-70 kit , the K-1 MK1 with lens, the K-1 MK2 with grip and the 50-200 lens deal.

They have the same aperture block issue as the K-50 - Ours is dead. We used the continuous shooting trick twice to save it... but it does not work anymore

Too bad about the aperture block. I bought a LN pink K-50 late last year from KEH. It had about a 200 shutter count and arrived DOA. They were great on the return but I don't want to have anything to do with a crop cam that is susceptible to this inherent disaster.Against my better judgement I just threw a K-S2 w/ 18-50 in the cart and it adds about $50 in tax and shipping. Hard pass.

I really need to find a nice K-3 or K-3II before Ricoh dumps the Pentax brand. Do one or both of the current APS-C cams come with the fatal defect?

If I were you I would put my money on KP. Lots of Good praise here for that camera. I have the K-3, low light ISO 3200 I am not liking that much, I have to use software to clean up noise. KP and K-1 seems much better at 3200.

My son's indoor artificial lighting stage performance is where is I need 3200+ otherwise out door pictures I am pretty happy with K-3. That is why I can't justify buying KP or K-1.

I fixed my K-50 myself and it's rocking for 2 yrs now (knock on wood).

FWIW, I understand that the aperture block issue was most common to the K-30 and K-50, plus I hope that Pentax used a more reliable solenoid in late production. I bought the K-S2 w 18-135. I'd been considering getting an 18-135 anyway (have a KP and K10D) and my wife has recently become interested in using a DSLR. So for the street price of an 18-135 plus ~$50, she gets a huge upgrade from the K10D and we get a more capable backup camera when we travel.
