I bought mine on Friday, free prime delivery today on a Sunday. I tried to give 1 of the cards a quick test. In continuous shooting mode, taken at approximately 20 ft using my K-3, Pentax 18-45 at F4 set to capture 6160 x 4000 captured in Adobe Digital Negative .DNG format 18 files were captured in approximately 8 seconds, file sizes around 29.5 MB for a capture of 531 MB while the buffer was being loaded. Then for the next 25 seconds the capture rate was an additional 38 files for a rate of 1.52 frames per second and 950 MB (38 Mbs) more data being captured.


Note: Those times may have been slowed down by a weak battery. I tried to see if it would keep up at full HD mode, but the battery died after 20 seconds. I will try again tomorrow.


I ordered 10 and they all appear to be in original packaging and were made in Korea.

The camera pauses when the buffer gets full. Its important to note how much time elapsed between when you could not take any more pics and when it started again (buffer emptied). This metric is useful to determine the transfer speed from the buffer to the card.

It's generally best to compare the specifications of the camera and sd cards in question. IIRC, my KP will only write at a maximum of 45 MS/s. There seems some discrepancy of write speeds published for these Lexar cards, but several reviewers tested them and found write speed to be in the mid 40s to low 50s. The test results are also limited by the testers' hardware, so tests of a variety of file sizes that yielded consistent results of 44MB/s for one tester tells me that was the limit of his hardware. Still, 44MB/s is effectively the maximum write speed of the KP, so the Lexar cards will work for me.

Is this the same company that made Lexar cards when they acquired their good reputation? I thought they had left the SD card business and that this is a different manufacturer who acquired the trademark. If so that would explain these prices.

I believe Micron sold the Lexar brand name to Longsys, a Chinese company back in 2017. In 2018 the company announced they were going back into full production:

My understanding is that the same Chinese company which previously made the cards now does the whole process. I assume, but do not know, that they use the same Japanese flash memory that they put into the cards {I don't even know whether they used the same Japanese supplier consistently 'back in the day'}.

Well, there was a big announcement and much commentary about them getting out of the SD card business. Also the old cards where much pricier. The new, very low prices just lead me to think there is something less than the old standard.

I suspect you may be right. Longsys has made some announcements about Chinese made Flash memory:
"Longsys Electronics has disclosed plans to develop what the company claims is "100% China-made" flash storage device, which will utilize NAND chips manufactured by Yangtze Memory Technologies (YMTC) and other China's homegrown chip solutions."

What's interesting is the cards that 'manishved' ordered from Amazon were labelled as made in Korea. It seems odd that a Chinese company would package them there, so perhaps these are old stock? Can anyone see a date code on them?
