That's possible - it was the only 20-40 LA had for sale. Do you happen to have the serial number or recall any "distinguishing marks" on the lens?

Yeah, this has been my thought process, too. I have each of the DA Ltd and even a couple duplicates... but I couldn't resist such a good deal on the 20-40 and if the lens doesn't tickle my fancy I'll simply sell it and somebody else will get a bargain.

The other contributing factor is that I enjoy shooting with theTamron Adaptall-2 SP 24-48mm f/3.5-3.8 (13A), and the 20-40 will give me a similar range and hopefully similar enjoyment.

To put a bow on this...

I received the lens on Friday - fast shipping by LA - and am returning the lens today. It's a lovely lens, and I found the optical performance to be good and the rendering to be truly lovely, but unfortunately it had significant AF issues at infinity, particularly in Live View. I emailed LA about the issue and RMA request on Saturday evening and they approved and sent me a shipping label this morning, so superb customer service by them (so far). Just a bit disappointed a company that rents camera equipment would send out a defective lens...
