Posted By: boriscleto, 12-30-2019, 12:06 PM

Used Sigma 800mm F5.6 APO EX Lens - Pentax Fit| | Unboxed | Very Good | ParkCam

I'm very suspicious. Never heard of this lens ever being made in K mount.

Very nice! Makes my little Oben look pretty meager.
It's a Wimberley version 2 gimbal.

I was wondering if it was a Wimberley. I haven't graduated to one yet. My biggest lens is an SMC Takumar 500, but my most often used FF telephoto is my DFA 150-450. This little Oben has been good enough for these:

Here is a test shot that I took last Friday at the camera shop.
K-3ii/Sigma 800mm F5.6 APO EX.

60% crop of car tyre taken at a distance of 120ft. ISO400, F9, 1/50sec

Wow. That's a pretty nice lens. Now if only sigma would start making them again...

I bought mine secondhand mint and boxed. The main reason I got one is that the A*1200mm weighs in at a hefty 19lb.

Nice test shot, but the rims need some work!

I went to the camera shop last Friday (200 mile round trip) and tried the lens on my k-3ii the focusing was very quick considering the size of the lens. My only issue with it was there was quite a lot of play between the lens mount and the back of the drop in filter. The lens has now been sent to be checked over and all being well I should have it in around 3 weeks.
I will let you all know when it arrives back from being checked.

Congratulations!!
I think you've already started on your review of this lens, having posted your first photo.

Looking forward to hearing more about it and seeing the images you make.

Entry added to the Lens review section for this lens, previously unlisted, which I had not ever heard of before. Sigma 800mm F5.6 APO EX

In case anyone buys this one (or another one) please give us all a review! At nearly 2000 GBP, it may be a touch too expensive for me, especially at this time of year. And how much for shipping that monster over here?

42nd St Photo says they have one, Brand New, for Pentax mount in stock at $6,999 USD: 42nd Street Photo - Sigma 152101p - 800mm - Sigma Lenses For Pentax Mount - f/5.6 EX DG APO HSM Lens for Pentax
I gave 42nd St Photo a ring today to see if they still had a brand new Sigma 800mm F5.6 APO EX in stock and they don't, it's an old advert.
