It looks like the new 70-210mm has just hit the shelves at Adorama! Can't complain about the turnaround time for this lens

Among the 13 bodies that it is supposed to work with is that mythical Pentax KZ922 which pentaxrumors once reported adorama as listing before it was removed.

Pentax D FA 70-210mm f/4.0 ED SDM WR Lens 21217 | Ricoh Australia
I will not be getting one in a big hurry.
in the box:
Pentax HD PENTAX-D FA 70-210mm f/4 ED SDM WR Lens
Pentax O-LC67 67mm Lens Cap
Pentax Rear Lens Cap (B) for Bayonet Mount Lenses
PH-RBP67 Lens Hood

When mounted on an APS-C-format camera, its focal length range is extended to the equivalent of 107mm to 322mm in the 35mm format. Its outstanding portability makes outdoor photography simpler, more effortless and more enjoyable. When coupled with the HD PENTAX-DA AF REAR CONVERTER 1.4X AW, you can further extend the focal length range to cover a wider range of subjects.

Any description of the Tamron lens I see lists no ED elements. The Pentax version has three ED elements. The DPReview article of the Tamron on lens lists no ED elements. They do mention that CA can be eliminated in post processing. The higher end Tamron lenses all list ED elements when they have them. No focus limiting either.

This lens is more than simply a rebranded Tamron lens.
Agree. But it isn’t a bargain

Gotta get me one of those KZ922 cameras!

Notice too that the Adorama listing has the mount as Sigma SA (at least when I just looked).

I'd laugh if that turned out to be the real name

Mine's getting delivered today.

Edit: It has landed. I will confirm the lack of a bag for the lens. Actually when you open the box, one flap lists the contents, and the other lists optional gear: That being the S100-200 soft pouch.

I'm testing it with my K-1II with the latest firmware. Wow, it's very fast focusing. Much smaller than the DFA*70-200. Anyway, new toy to play with...back in a while.

Edit: Ok, per B&H the S100-200 case is only $29.95...on an $1,100 purchase, wow, what a deal! Oh, and also per B&H, that is the same case used by the DA*300.

Yep...optional. Were you planning on a purchase? The case is $25 USD. (I thought you sold your K-1ii.)

Regular price on the Tamron is $799 and the case is not a standard accessory. The case/accessory bundle is Adorama's bundle, not Tamron's. Of course, if one wishes to purchase the Tamron, they must have a Nikon or Canon body. You should be able to get a purchase price in the $800 range on the Pentax lens by this time next year.

Steve

I did sell it. Missed it after doing so. Now have another one, so am interested in the new 70-210. I thought I saw the lens pouch for $34.95 on B&H, but maybe I am remembering wrong. The case was a standard accessory on the Pentax version of the Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 macro. I had a copy and it came with it. I like Pentax's cases better:-)

What he said

We're not fully confident that this is a Tamron rebrand, by the way, and it has some elements missing from the Tamron version (coatings, etc).

Why do so many comment so much on stuff they know so little about?

Per the package and lens - "Made in Vietnam"

Also, and not unexpectedly, Lightroom 9.2, Camera Raw 12.2 (the latest version AFAIK as LR just updated earlier this week) does not recognize this lens' profile - yet. Seems to like the Tamron 70-210 profile though.

Universal question, really, even before the Internet.

And where are Tamron's made?

Is there anything anywhere suggesting Pentax doesn't do everything from pouring the glass blanks through to putting the lenses in the boxes and shipping them.

Where is there support for the notion Tamron did anything but licence the design?

After all if the original Tamron design met Pentax spec. it would make more sense to license than burden your own design department with the task, and it would help get the product out quicker.

Until someone confirms the parts of the two cameras are interchangeable, I'm not committing to the stretch that it might be Tamron manufactured, or even have any Tamron manufactured components.

As far as I can tell the whole discussion is fostered by those who want to claim that the Pentax is overpriced, and need them to be the same lens. It's more likely that Tamron just doesn't command the kinds of price Pentax does and as a third party can't make money with so many of us preferring Pentax branded glass. Just putting the Pentax name on it means the lens has a shot at being profitable, for Pentax as the OEM, where it wouldn't be for Tamron.

But really, it's a lens that fits on my camera, if the switch for the focus limiter was made on the moon or in North Korea I really don't care. Fix lens to camera, aim, focus , fire, process picture. Nothing changes, no matter where it's from.

The entire obnoxious claim that Canon or Nikon users can buy exactly the same lens for less than the release price is irrelevant. If you want the Nikon version buy whatever the Nikon you prefer is and buy it. And you can walk around saying "look what a great deal." And if you need to believe you're getting exactly what you would have if you'd bought the Pentax, it's not really worth anyone's time to try and convince you other wise. But that doesn't mean you'd be right.

Until the notion that Pentax didn't in some way make desired changes to the glass, or lens body supported by something other than speculation, anyone who claims to know something is just blowing hot air.

It's a very good Pentax lens. It's Pentax branded and comes through the Pentax supply chain. Anything more than that should be prefaced with "I don't know this for sure but I suspect, blah , blah, blah."
