That's probably less than $2000 USD.

I'd love to put this lens through its paces on the K-1 but I've been spoiled rotten with eye AF on both the Fuji and Sony bodies

Plus that is a pretty dang steep price.

And still command a hefty premium second hand.
Allowing for time and inflation its priced about right.
I'd love one but its out of my price range at the minute.

Well that price, converted to US dollars, is about the list price of the Canon 85mm f/1.2 (street price on that one is about 500 dollars less though - as the Pentax will after a couple of years I'm sure). That's premium optics price for an 85mm lens. But according to asahi man the Pentax lens is on a different level even compared to those premium Canon lenses. So, to my point, premium optics, and a price that is actually good value considering how good this lens is.
