Flashpoint R2 Mark II Trigger (X2T-P) [Adorama] - $29.99 + Ship
Posted By: sprint113, 05-07-2021, 08:39 AM

Same as the Godox X2T-P, just under Adorama's Flashpoint brand. Should work with both Godox X and Flashpoint R2 flashes/strobes. Listed retail for $59.99.

Since Cactus' presumed demise, I believe this is probably the remaining option for a TTL radio trigger for Pentax cameras.

Oh yeah.

I have the Flashpoint R2 Pro trigger and some Flashpoint R2 flashes (on Nikon). It's an easy to use combo.

Taking a break right now from using them to shoot water drop macros.

Set the channel on the trigger, set the flashes to slave radio (amber back) and the same channel as the trigger. Then boogie.

Oh and there was something else I had to do initially on camera (and I think in the flash setups for each) to get HSS mode to function, but I don't recall what since its been awhile. So FYI.

I already have a pair of R2 Pros, but having a hotshoe on this one might be useful at some point. Certainly cheap enough.

Do you have some input on the functional differences between the X2T, the Pro and the Pro MarkII?

Thanks.

I had the first version which unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately, failed. Replaced with the Mark2 version which I like far more, and so added a second one.

Robert Hall does a better job than I could of explaining why you want the Mk2 version.

No, none of the Pentax-dedicated triggers support rear-sync.

The R2 Pro Mk II and R2 Mk II (Godox X2t) share similar specs, basically the same radio inside (protocol/compatibility, # of channels, ID codes, range)
  • The pro has a large display and sticks out from the camera at a 45 degree angle. The non-pro has a smaller display and sits parallel of the camera, though the hotshoe foot does cause it to stick out quite a bit
  • The pro supports more lighting groups (16 vs 5)
  • The pro supports TCM - TTL converted to Manual. This will "save" the last used TTL power level into the manual power setting so you can have consistent lighting in following shots.
  • The non-pro has a hotshoe on top that allows TTL passthrough, so you can have an on-body flash as well as your remote flashes. Unlike Cactus brand triggers, which is a transceiver, the R2 mkII is a transmitter only. You would need a Godox X1r receiver, which I don't believe were made for Pentax TTL flashes.
  • Non-Pro R2 Mk II and R2 Pro Mk II added bluetooth to allow connecting to a smartphone app

Also, the R2 Pro MkII is exclusive to Adorama Flashpoint and doesn't have a Godox equivalent.

Well, with the discount it's like getting free shipping. And it's worth it.
