Amazon Warehouse: D FA* 85mm lens for $1530
Posted By: zzaletel, 11-29-2021, 02:22 PM

As of 1pm PST 11/29, if anyone is looking, 'Used - Very Good' with original packaging direct from Amazon. I believe you can return if not to your liking, and 'free' shipping with Prime.

it's even $ 1329 now on the image you've posted.
Sadly, with customs, it would be way up for Europe.

True, if you sign up for the credit card, knock another 200 off. That said, new ask there is 1700 at the moment.

Ah, I missed that, and wouldn't fall for it.

Interestingly, Amazon link leads to the Pentax Store.

IMO this is currently the finest lens in Pentax lineup for "people" images. Might be among the finest 85 available across any brand for that matter according to some of the reviews I've read. Very highly recommended by this ol'Gator.

I have no difficulty believing this. For me, the weight would be a stumbling block, but I'd love the lens otherwise.

The weight has been a non-issue for me on either the K1 or K3III. It balances well on both bodies. The hood is the only thing that seems a bit ponderous to me, but I also had the FA85 and still have the crop version *55 and they all have large hoods, so I get it's a necessity. For indoor portraits and sometimes outdoor as well I just remove it.

I reserved a rental of the D FA* 85mm for two weeks over the upcoming holidays. Looking forward to my first use of this lens!

Clear credit card space too, because IMO you'll be looking to buy one for yourself after just a dozen shots in.

Agreed, the hoods for the A*85 and FA*85 are also pretty huge!

I really miss built in retractable hoods which seemed to be common on older M/A/F series telephotos. Might not be as effective but I'd actually use them!

The DA15 and DA35 Limited are wonderful examples of good built in retractable hoods.

I need to get to a shop at some point, probably Foto Looman who's one of the few shops in the Netherlands carrying a lot of Pentax gear.
I'm inclined to go for the DFA 21mm Ltd, though, but I want to try the 16-50mm PLM as well as the 1.4/50 and 1.4/85mm lenses. You're right, you've got to feel them in your hands. Over here [in Austria] I have no opportunity whatsoever to do that.

Will be interesting to check if anyone compared the IQ if the A* version and the HD version. Of course A* is MF
