Just a tip that there's no need to stump up for the "express" postage - I ordered a bag late on Monday (and chose the free option) and it was still sent by Startrack and is scheduled to arrive here in Perth sometime today. My advice would be to save yourself a few bucks.

I skipped the K-5ii/s, but the K-5 was a great camera in its day, as was the K-3. As good as those others were, based on my experience with them, the K-3iii is a major leap forward in so many ways. On the other hand, I bought mine at a small discount on the original selling price, so perhaps my thinking about value is a little skewed, as a result. Anyway, stick with it, because the price is bound to settle somewhere near your “not too rich” range, at some point.

I suppose so, or maybe it is just rampant inflation after all the money printing for cov19. I notice the price of Capture One 22 has skyrocketed in the last couple of weeks (looking to upgrade but I will wait and see if there is a sale at some point and the price drops again).

Inflation is rising, that’s for sure, but I don’t think money printing is the major cause, although governments always have that option as a last resort. From what I’ve been able to glean, most of the pandemic funding has come from bond issuance, at least in the developed countries. Supply chain issues have led to scarcities in some sectors like motor vehicles (and most electronic-dependent products, including cameras), and the old saw about more money chasing fewer goods is the very definition of inflation.

I do wonder, though, about the pricing strategies of the photo-processing software developers. The most successful alternatives to Photoshop CC seem to have adopted upgrade pricing that comes near to Adobe’s annual licensing, and I don’t see that they can claim supply chain problems.

Upgrade pricing is not an issue - if it is optional. If it is not optional, ie a choice, then it is something else masquerading as an 'upgrade'. So they can charge what they want for their upgrades, and I will decide whether I want to pay for the feature the upgrade will bring to me.

Mind you, I am still using LR6, so that probably tells you a lot about my willingness to pay.
