Big difference in the price of the K-70. ($A prices)

K-70 body only:
Ricoh site: $1199 -> $1019.15 (with 15% off) (Pentax K-70 DSLR (Body Only) - Black 16244 | Ricoh Imaging Australia)
Dcxpert: $869 -> $738.65 with code PAPP15 (PENTAX K-70 DSLR (BLACK) BODY ONLY (16244) 27075297289 | eBay)

K-70 + DA 18-135 (great beginner combination)
Ricoh: $1679 -> $1427.15 (Pentax K-70 DSLR (Black) with DA 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 WR Lens 16257 | Ricoh Imaging Australia)
Dcxpert: $1229 -> $1044.65 with code PAPP15 (PENTAX K-70 DSLR (BLACK) + DA 18-135MM F3.5-5.6 WR LENS (16257) 27075298279 | eBay)

With the current ebay sale, Ebay Plus members get an extra 2% off when using the PAPP15 code. Edit: different code - see post by @i_trax below. Expiry date of the sale is not specified.

Given the supply chain problems and what is likely to be a real increase in Pentax camera prices over time (indicated by the pricing of the K-3iii), these deals seem as good as it will get for the foreseeable future.

K-3iii is not part of the Ricoh Australia sale. It is $2939 body only. Dcxpert have it for $2795, less $300 = $2495 with the PAPP15 code (PENTAX K-3 III DSLR CAMERA - SILVER (BODY ONLY) (1074) | eBay).

For any new members reading this, Dcxpert is not a grey market seller. Products are supplied from C R Kennedy (Ricoh Australia official distributor) and carry the full warranty. Their service is very good. Shipping is free.

I am eBay+ member and use this deal pretty regularly ( most of my Pentax , Sigma , Hahnell etc purchases ).

up to 17% off , up to $300
Enter code at checkout to redeem. Voucher expires 17/04/2022. Terms and conditions apply.
PAPR17
they also sell Sigma and some other brands

This is reoccurring deal and it is offered by some other online eBay shops , so just look for it

Tip re postage charge for some items on DCXpert

For anyone that buys something through DCXpert, they seem to offer an "express" postage option and a "free" option for some items (mostly lower cost ones from my limited investigations).

Just a tip that there's no need to stump up for the "express" postage - I ordered a bag late on Monday (and chose the free option) and it was still sent by Startrack and is scheduled to arrive here in Perth sometime today. My advice would be to save yourself a few bucks.

I was lucky enough to get the last 150-450mm for $2499 while the sale was on at dcxpert. Now that the sale is over it is almost $1200 more on the Pentax Australia site! That's a good days work

I got the last DFA28-105

With that, the 21 and 31 Ltds, and an SMC 50/1.7, I think my DFA 24-70 and 15-30 are pretty redundant, and will be on the chopping block. That might give me the readies to sort out the long end ...

Struth, I haven't checked K3III prices for quite a while (work has been insanely busy) so I thought I would check pentax.com.au, expecting that by now surely the K3III price would have dropped substantially below the initial release price, but no, it has gone up!
While the eBay price is more palatable (basically release price if you exclude the code), it is still too rich for me, guess I will stick with the K5IIs.

I guess it takes several years for Ricoh to recoup development costs on a major new camera.

I skipped the K-5ii/s, but the K-5 was a great camera in its day, as was the K-3. As good as those others were, based on my experience with them, the K-3iii is a major leap forward in so many ways. On the other hand, I bought mine at a small discount on the original selling price, so perhaps my thinking about value is a little skewed, as a result. Anyway, stick with it, because the price is bound to settle somewhere near your “not too rich” range, at some point.

I thought I’d done with buying lenses, but along came the D FA21 at the right price…

I suppose so, or maybe it is just rampant inflation after all the money printing for cov19. I notice the price of Capture One 22 has skyrocketed in the last couple of weeks (looking to upgrade but I will wait and see if there is a sale at some point and the price drops again).

Inflation is rising, that’s for sure, but I don’t think money printing is the major cause, although governments always have that option as a last resort. From what I’ve been able to glean, most of the pandemic funding has come from bond issuance, at least in the developed countries. Supply chain issues have led to scarcities in some sectors like motor vehicles (and most electronic-dependent products, including cameras), and the old saw about more money chasing fewer goods is the very definition of inflation.

I do wonder, though, about the pricing strategies of the photo-processing software developers. The most successful alternatives to Photoshop CC seem to have adopted upgrade pricing that comes near to Adobe’s annual licensing, and I don’t see that they can claim supply chain problems.

Upgrade pricing is not an issue - if it is optional. If it is not optional, ie a choice, then it is something else masquerading as an 'upgrade'. So they can charge what they want for their upgrades, and I will decide whether I want to pay for the feature the upgrade will bring to me.

Mind you, I am still using LR6, so that probably tells you a lot about my willingness to pay.

On a related issue, what's the deal with importing a second hand lens into Australia? What taxes/duties are payable?
