Maybe I just didn't know, back then, how to make such a combo work. I suspect it would not be easy with a 1000mm lens either.
I use the Pentax Helicoid Extension tube on my K 500/4.5, and it works well. But the 1000/8 is already pretty slow, and you lose light with extension tubes, and you'll probably want to stop that 1000/8 down to improve sharpness and reduce fringing.
Any way, I hope the purchaser of the 1000/8 is on this forum and posts photos!
