DA* 16-50mm price drop
Posted By: Jodokast96, 03-22-2010, 05:39 PM

Don't know how long it will last, but I'm seeing it at B&H, Calumet, and Buy.com (also Amazon via Buy.com) for $770. Adorama has it for $744.

Actually that's pretty typical. This happens frequently whenever they get new stock in.

Well, you know, with K-5 around the corner, this is not surprising.

Maybe cause i'm rather sleep deprived at the moment but I find it interesting that the upcoming replacement for the Oly E-3 is supposedly going to be the E-5. If Pentax opts for the K-5 that is somehow amusing to me that both companies are going with the whole "5" thing.

In B&H and Adorama it has been holding that price for some months now...
I bought the 16-50 in january from Adorama for 744$.

need to remember that in these stores they always show a discounted price when adding to your basket

At least they have them in stock now. B and H had been out of stock on the 16-50 for a few weeks.

The B&H and Adorama out-of-stock statuses annoy me. In some cases some items are flat-out discontinued, but they leave you hanging on in the hope that the very thing you're looking for will spring up again some time in the future.

I've been waiting to know the fate of the DA* 50-135 for over a month now. I know I could find one elsewhere, but if Pentax is going to update/replace it (better SDM?!) I'd rather bide my time. It's not knowing that kills me!

I'm in the same boat. I can't find it for sale anywhere period, which has me questioning if Pentax is doing doing some QC on the SDM issues.

I did speak to a fairly rude person at B&H about the status of the 50-135, and all he said is it's backordered and there are no issues he's aware of with SDM functionality.

Well, Olympus would be following their pattern: E-1, E-3, E-5. I don't know why, but even numbers like 2, 4 and 6 seem less marketable. Certainly "K-5" sounds more plausible than "K-4" or "K-6". Some sort of weird psychological thing there.

K-5 doesn't sound very plausible for a camera below the K-7.
K-4 doesn't sound very plausible for a Japanese camera.

I originally ordered the 16-50mm from Amazon back on Jan 13th. It was back ordered at the time, but finally shipped a couple days ago. Today the price is $1029.95 through Amazon, but $744 through Adorama (on Amazon). Yikes! Why such a difference?

I'm just relieved I ordered it back in January when the price was $707 through a Goldbox deal.

$1,099 at local retailers here.

Then again the K20D is still fetching over $900...
