Pentax Remote F battery
Posted By: PentaxNewbie, 05-23-2012, 01:18 PM

I have recently purchased from a second hand camera store a Pentax Wireless F remote. I could not for the life of me figure out how to use it. Come to find out when I opened the casing it didn't have a battery. So , I went to Radio Shack and purchased the correct battery (CR 1620) and tried to install it. BUT I can not figure out how to put it back together. I figured out which side need to go up (+/-) but can't figure out what to do with the little "airplane" metal piece. - picture attached. PLEASE HELP

I have read that this works with the Pentax K20D , but can anyone confirm?

K20, K7, K5.

I'm not sure about any other cameras since I have no first hand experience with them.

Hopefully someone else can assist on the 'airplane' piece since I don't really want to take my remote control apart until I have to.

Yikes, you took it apart?! It should work out-of-the-box if you've enabled the appropriate camera setting.

The OP mentioned that he had to purchase a battery for it since it didn't have one. It was second hand.

Yes, I didnt want to open it but it was a last resort. I am glad I did because I would have never figured out it didnt have a battery.

Looking for someone who has done the same and has got it to work after replacing the battery.

Hmm... That airplane thing has to somehow sit on the battery or something like that...

Sorry, but I'm not taking mine apart though to figure it out. :P

The only thing I can tell is that the battery is in the cage upside down. The positive and negative poles are being shorted at the moment by the wire that is touching both the rim + and the center - of that side that is showing.

Recommend you flip it over in the cage. The other side should clear the negative center.

Once you flip it over, see if the airplane can sit on the negative center and also bridge to a contact point on the circuit board.

Can you do that and show a picture of the other side? it will drop into the left half of the case as shown

Pentax F works with practically ever Pentax camera with an IR reciever. - If it's the battery, once it's replaced, it should work fine. As to what to do with that little...metal thingy? Dunno.

Crewl1 ,

Thanks so much for the help. I tried what you told me and finally got it to work !!

The bent end of the airplane goes in the little open space right next to the circuit board. It doesn't actually "fit" in the hole but you pretty much just lay it on the negative side of the CR1620 3v battery and then gently close the Remote and lock it down.

Moderators, can we have this saved as a 'sticky' or something? A lot of us have these remotes and although Pentax says that they should replace the battery, who is going to bother doing that?

These few photos would be good as a saved repair document for the future.

Thanks mtansley -

I think these pics should help. I have combed the internet for 2 days with no luck on this issue. There are no pictures, nor great instructions how to do this correctly. I really hope this helps others!!
