Well, darn near everything! Photome has been mentioned a few times in this forum but I think it deserves it's own thread.

PhotoME is an EXIF viewer written by Jens Duttke of Germany. It is currently available at no cost. I am just a very happy user of the software, Jens doesn't know me from Adam.

Here is an example of the output from a K10D PEF file using version 0.79R2 build 612 - Pretty amazing. By the way, the BB-Code formatting was done automatically by PhotoME. Kewl! I've highlighted in RED some of the more interesting tags ...

I use firefox and there is a nifty plug in for viewing exif data and it is as simple as a right click and view. No need to even download a photo to use it.

PhotoME can integrate into Firefox 'automagically' so EXIF data on the web is just a right click away. It even displays an RGB histogram of the image you are viewing in the browser.

Believe me no other EXIF reader comes close to PhotoME in EXIF decoding. I've tried them all.

Yes, you can turn off the stuff you don't want to look at. I listed everything in the post above just to highlight how complete the decoding is on PhotoME. I did turn off the extra useless 'binary data" fields in the output above.

I'd much rather have an application like this decode everything it can and let me the user decide what is important. So many of these EXIF viewers are pretty pathetic in that respect.

As does the *ist D, pity it took them so long to include an orientation sensor in their DSLRs.

Since sensor noise increases with temperature, it's pretty useful information to have.

It appears to register an internal chip temp, not the ambient one (which is more useful from that point of view). I have some pictures I took out in the snow the other day and the exif values are 17-18C, which is a lot warmer than I was.

Just noticed review of Olympus E3 also mentioned it monitored chip temp. Good info to have but what can companies do with this info? Do they change some camera processing based on chip temp? Amazing.

I just warmed a battery to 30C - the camera was at ~17C - Popped off an image and the reported temperature was 18C. I then put in a battery cooled to 0C - reported temperature was 18C. So the temperature reported is the camera and not the battery.

It looks like a winner! I especially like the temperature reading, I did not know the camera HAD a temperature sensor. This is very useful for Astrophotography where heat generated noise is a big problem and the temperature rise from 100% duty cycle causes images to degrade rapidly for each successive exposure. I can now better decide on the cool down time to allow between shots.

Sure doesn't look like a Windows style program, it lacks the menu bar across the top but I soon found what I was looking for.

I'm looking forward to an update to version 1.
