DIY: Macro Ring Flash for DSLR (Easy/Cheap/Durable) - The "Fring"
Posted By: SF1, 08-11-2008, 01:44 PM

DIY Macro Ring Flash for DSLR (Easy/Cheap/Durable) - The "Fring" - Fibre Optic Ring Flash adaptor for pop-up flash. I tested it on a K20D w/SMC DFA 100 2.8 and Classic Tamron 90 2.5 w/matching 2X converter. Design can probably be adapted for other lenses/systems. Cost $5.00 to make using items from a dollar store, tape, and a pair of scissors.

Update: the web-page that had the "how to" has expired. Here's a PDF containing the directions: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/attachments/do-yourself/43784d1253748654-...ring-fring.pdf

Enjoy!

.pdf for "fring" macro flash how-to

The page I had the plans on has expired. I'm attaching a .pdf of the how to. (Greatly reduced resolution.) I'm still having fun with this flash, but now I need to extend it as I'm using my DFA100 with a Takumar-a 2X (with the glass removed - so basically I get full auto flash with an extension tube.) I'm also thinking of building something similar to use with my microscope adapter.
