Rain Cover Experience

I'll be traveling to Yellowstone this Summer and want to be prepared for rain. I've been looking at a few rain covers and two brands seem to stand out as reasonably priced and well made. Does anyone have any experience with Photo Buddy or FotoSharp products? Or different recommendations. Thanks for any comments.

Hrm, can't say I have particular experience with custom-made ones, but there's something to be said for the 're-used plastic bag' concept: just poke hole, rubber band to lens hood, stretch another hole over eyepiece: you can carry a few of them if need be.

For a big trip like Yellowstone, something special-made would certainly not be out of the question, of course. But I'd bring a plastic shopping bag or three, anyway. To have a place to carry your wet rain cover, (not to mention anything else that's likely to get wet) if nothing else.

I have the Fotosharp one that's big enough for a 70-200 with a hood. It opens on the bottom edge with velcro so you can put it over a camera/lens mounted on a tripod/monopod.

It weighs next to nothing & scrunches up small so it isn't a burden to carry. It works well at repelling water & you can open the back to change a card etc. if needed. You also have to look through the thing to compose unless you leave it open. That's never been an issue for me as I always wear a hat in the rain anyway.

Having seen it, next time I'd by a yard of silnylon in the color of my choice from thru-hiker. You could make quite a few cam covers & still have enough material left to make a ground cover for those dewy mornings when you need to sit/lay on the ground to get your shot.

i personally like the "Storm Jacket Pro" too - it's very light, small packed and easy to handle and not too expensive

Incidentally, speaking of rubber bands, these recently-faddish rubber bracelets are incredibly useful to have around for many improvised photographic purposes.

I've used a plastic bag for the last couple of years quite successfully. Have recently "uograded" to a modified version of the waterproof bags you find in camping shops.

Another vote for the StormJacket which I've used on boats in the Arctic and Antarctic. A small will comfortably take a K20/grip/DA*50-135mm. A medium will swallow a Sigma 100-300mm whole.
