SF Bay Area Meetup

There are quite a few of us Bay Area Members active now so it's about time we organised a meetup.

I am not familiar enough with the area yet to make any suggestions so let's start off with People interested and suggestions for where we could meet.

Maybe if enough people are interested, we could also have a regular night out, meal and chat, every month or so.

There is also a Bay Area social group PentaxForums.com - Bay Area, CA I have just signed onto it, might be another way of coordinating things for the future. Social groups are underused IMO.

Preferences so far

Point Reyes seashore 4 votes

Fort Point & GG Park 4 votes (most people think the two together should work)

Marin Headlands 3 votes

I'm proposing a Saturday in March 7, 14, 21 or 28

SUGGGESTED MEETUPS

Point Reyes National Seashore http://www.nps.gov/pore Mid March for the Whales.

Travelling the Bay on the ferries for a few hours. (Did I say they serve beer on the ferries?)

Golden Gate Park - SF http://www.golden-gate-park.com/

Marin Headlands http://www.nps.gov/goga/marin-headlands.htm

HI Gary, count me in. I am going to be stressed as hell till the 16th of February cos we have 2 important deadlines at work but I can always try to find a spot for the meetup. Regarding places I know even less than you about where to go. What I can suggest for later (spring would be best) is to try to do a photographic meetup on Hakone Gardens (in Saratoga, close to Palo Alto)

I am in...

I work some weekends, but I can get out of many of them... and do!

If my K20 is in colorado getting repaired, I can always bring my trusty dusty K100

Hey Gary that link to the group is not working.

I'm interested! Maybe a landscape outing up to one of the open space preserves on the mountains?

Thanks for joining in, do you have anywhere specific to suggest?

Well I have never done a shoot before. And my days living in SF were done on the seat of a Mtn Bike... so I could get anywhere in GG park or all thru the Marin Headlands at ease. I am not sure exactly where to go... but out around the point at near the cliff house / ruins of the old bath house and down to baker beach is nice... There is a view of the GG bridge from the 17th green at Lincoln Golf course that I used to love when I golfed it ... But again I am used to doing that on a bike so as far as walking.... I dont know.

I would love for someone with more experience than I choose someplace...

i'm in! since i'm a beginner (and also not all that familiar with the bay area), i'm really not sure where we could go and what we could shoot, but: we could do santa cruz or san francisco - good coffee/beer/meal places and lots of nice landscape/seascape options

i'm open to any place as long as we're meeting on the weekends!

This might be worth thinking about if anyone is interested. It would solve the getting around problem and if there were enough of us we could have it exclusively.

San Francisco sightseeing Tours

It would cover one of Timberspines suggestions.

I've just updated the thread starter with some links;

Thanks Gary for letting me know about this !

I would like to add Fort Point to the list . It's right at the bottom of the Golden Gate Bridge .

I didn't get inside that day b/c the place was closed . I think they open only Thurs-Sun .

Fort Point is in the Presidio area : a vast park that you can almost shoot anything on it .

You can walk from the Fort right onto the Bridge itself !

Parking is free by the last exit on US 101 just before the bridge . Skip the paid spaces . There are free places on the left of that road a short distance away .

We can follow the 19th Avenue South to Clement Street . It's a "Local China Town" around there - left of 19th . You can eat your heart out cheap with many options . Just make sure you have plenty of changes with you for parking meters !
