Is the K10 considered a "professional" camera??

I am going to a Kenny Chesney concert in Phoenix at the Cardinal's Stadium on 5/31 - FRONT ROW

I'd really like to bring the k10 w/ kit lens, and am wondering if any of you have brought their k10 to a concert. I'm less concerned wtih technique as I am with getting the camera in!!!! I checked the Stadium's policy - it say's "No professional cameras, and no lenses longer than 6 inches"

Do you think the stadium staff will consider the k10 a "professional" camera? Lord knows I am not a professional!!

Also, I called the stadium to ask clarification, and they did also mention that Kenny's promotions staff has the final word on what's acceptable.

Anyway - if y'all have input on what you think, I sure would appreciate it!!

I may be wrong, as i am not experienced in such things, but IMHO, I would say it would definitely be classed as a "pro" camera.

It's officially classed as a Prosumer camera Lori. I don't think you can rely on the security people to know the difference. Maybe if you had a pancake lens you might get away with it. I would suggest you checking with the venue to make sure there is a secure place to check it if you can't take it in, then you can take a P&S as backup.

one of the resons i just got a Pentax 110 LOL

the other thing is you could shoot film and a fast 50 1.7, 1.4, 1.2

and say a smaller film camera like a P3n, PZ-10 ect there is a good chance that becuse it is not digtal they will not think it a "pro" camera or for 800$ there is the Sigma DP1 or get a Leica range finder and REALL show them the non "pro" camera LOL

Whether it is or not, to the people making that decision, it'll sure look like a pro camera. Bring the point and shoot instead, don't risk it.

Yeah, you're trusting a judgement call on folks getting paid minimum wage who would pale at paying over $200 for a camera.

Take a good "point and shoot" instead.

I would guess if you show up with the kit lense and not a 300* or something significant, you should be able to pass by.. you never know though...

Non-Pentax-using professional photographers might not consider the K10D the be a "professional" camera. But, any concert venue I've been to considers any camera with a removable lens a "professional camera." Be safe and take a P&S. Ironically you could use a super zoom camera that would will give you as good a picture as a mid to low end DSLR.

I've shot professional events with my K100D, and it handled everything like a champ
It's really the person behind the camera whom makes the difference. If you look professional everyone will think you are.

Your probably best off to write to Kenny's staff ahead of time.
The chances are that they won't have the time to reply to your letter, however they might just arrange for a killer seat for you.

When I caught the Blue Man Group concert in Albany, NY I had my k110 with my 50-200 and had no problems. Blue Man productions encouraged fans to take pictures.

I got tickets for the Montreal Blue Man Group show in sept (yeah ok so I'm a fan) and when I checked with Blue Man productions they said that now they no longer accept "pro" cameras, which they define as a camera with detachable lenses...

DAMM!!!!

I may try to bring my cam with only an FA50 and claim it's not detachable... it'll be pretty hard to hide it though, I got front row tickets... :S

Ok then, it seems it's better to be safe than sorry! The good thing is, I have "Sandbar" seats, which equals front row .. so my Canon Powershot should get some decent shots. I just gotta go out this weekend and stock up on batteries Thanks everyone!

A lot of ignorant people can't tell the difference between a beginner SLR and a pro model. If I visit my local botanical garden, they make me pay a shooting fee, because, in their eyes, I am a professional. They only judge the "professionalism" of a camera by its size.

take it with out the grip and you should be fine! Pro normally means a camera with a grip and maybe an external flash?

Just to be safe have some no so good family snaps saved on the card so if an argument arises you can show them that you are not a pro etc

+1 on the average security guy saying its a "pro" camera. Any SLR would probably be classified that way. Maybe.... just maybe a 4/3rds one would slip by since they're so small.
