After checking the weather and determining we had a window of nice weather between then and the Long may Weekend when the swarms, (both people and bugs) come out, we drove off to Brigham Lake And set up camp.
The next morning we investigated the sound of running water, we'd heard during the night and discovered a small creek cascading down a fairly steep hill.
We returned to camp to pack a lunch and then headed out for a day trip down the Barron Canyon. The first stop was Brigham Falls, very close to our campsite.
The trip through the Canyon was spectacular. We are already planning return trip to take more images.
When we arrived back at camp, a light rain was falling. We completed setting up our tarp, just as the rain ended.
The next morning we were up early and headed off to High Falls. The portages were rocky and took an unexpected toll on our old ankles and knees. They weren't long ( a total of 1600 metres) but they still hurt.
We set up camp at High Falls lake and spent the next day hiking/bush whacking up to the water slide. It's a very photogenic trip.
The temperature was well over 30 C (80 F) but the water was cold. We punctuated the hike with a number of swims in the cold water.
The next morning I went back and took a few pictures of a falls we'd bi-passed the day before.
We portaged back to Opalescent Lake where there was a beautiful field stone fire pit and benches and a great beach and sunset.
The next day we stayed on Opalescent, taking pictures resting and exploring the other campsites on the lake.
The next day was time to head home. We stopped to two the Barron Canyon Hiking Trail on the way out It has some incredible vistas.
