Well, here's an update for those wondering (and if you're not wondering, why are you still reading this?!).
I had a pretty big shoot last Friday and thought this location would be a perfect spot for it. I called the listing agent and asked if he would contact the owner and get permission for me to use the property for a shoot. The realtor, who was very nice by the way, said he didn't need to contact the owner and I had permission to shoot there.
Still a bit of a skeptic I stopped by the house on Thursday afternoon while the guy who's leasing the property was there. Before I even finished the first sentence of introducing myself he interrupted by saying, "No, nope. No way."
I talked to him for a bit while he took a break from his tractor as he told me he chases off three people a week from the property, mostly "girls in bridal gowns, who think he's the meanest man alive as they sulk and pout while walking away." Many of his cows out to pasture are pregnant and due to birth very soon. He didn't want me or anyone in my party to get attacked by a protective cow.
He went on to tell me the owners are four sisters who live in Arizona and want to demolish the buildings on the property because so many people stop by and aren't interested in buying the place. The sisters don't talk to each other and do not get along, so no one can agree what to do with the house and none of them want to get together or talk about what should be done. The cowboy lives nearby and he estimates the house is 120-130 years old, but doesn't know any of the history. The sisters have told him he's responsible for the property and if anyone gets hurt it's his fault, not theirs. That's why he doesn't let anyone come by and he's tired of running so many photographers off each week.
Needless to say I couldn't use this location anymore. So Friday we went out west to the abandoned building off of North Temple Frontage not far from Saltaire. I was disappointed to see someone removed the old street car
.
Here's a photo of the old farmhouse I wanted to shoot in for those not familiar:
