The sensor being put in the new K-3 III is the same one in this CMOS camera:
QHY268c Camera Review - Best Astrophotography Camera
. Obviously what you get depends upon your lens or the telescope you mount it on, but the combination of this great sensor AND the 4K video makes this a very enticing astro camera, IMHO.

Sporting the 26 Megapixel SONY IMX571 colour sensor in APC-C format, 16bit ADC with 3.76um pixels, it is also part of a new wave of astrophotography cameras that brings new technology to the table. Zero amp glow, very low dark current and read noise

And if you want to see the spec sheet for the sensor
this looks to be it
.
Looks like Ricoh is really trying to tempt me with something new to stick behind the A* 400/2.8. Good to see the BSI sensor that was rumored is coming.

Back illuminated!!! It's going to be very expensive but for astro work it's a game changer.

At the price point they are talking about, nah, but if it were in the 1k to 1200 range, sure.

Give it a bit and it will probably be there. Even at $1400 I would likely be spending money.

I would be excited if I needed a new camera. But it's not enough of an advance over my K-3II to consider. The one really new major feature - 4K video - is not important to me at all, besides being not really useful for AP. (Video of any kind is unimportant for how I use a DSLR.)

I hope it actually does have GPS built-in.

Being intended as a replacement for the K-3II, the K-3 Mark III is almost sure to have GPS (and thereby Astrotracer) built in.
