Nice capture and I was wondering the same about the colour of the nebula.

Maybe. But all parts of M42 are white, even the darker parts. And ALL your stars, even the very faint ones, are seriously lacking color. Here's what I think happened. You used something in your processing that got rid of colored halos from the lens caused by longitudinal chromatic aberration. Many such tools act on ranges of colors, turning them into white. I can attest that if such tools are not used carefully, you can easily wipe out colors.

That sounds interesting, could you expand a bit upon this? I'm asing as I'm seriously lacking in processing skills and I'm interested in all the information in this regard.

They are usually called defringing tools. It would help if you can describe the steps you used to process the image and what software you used to do each step.

Now we're talking! Good job.
PS. Before you posted your image, I didn't know there was (still is?) a comet in Orion. I was out Monday night and photographed M42 and the Horsehead, among other things. If I had known about the comet, I would have used a telephoto on the area as well.

On Nov 15, 2020, the comet will be very close to Bellatrix, the left shoulder of Orion. Should be a good pairing.

Thanks for sharing that info; that should indeed be nice. Here's hoping for clear skies.

Man, the difference having a good tracking mount makes in taking these spectacular images. Thank you for sharing.
