You can shoot from indoors when it's cold outside! I'm not really serious, because there are good reasons not to do that. But if you want to do it, Astrotracer makes it possible. It's because Astrotracer doesn't require polar alignment, which would be pretty hard to do (virtually impossible) indoors. However, Astrotracer does require getting a lock on GPS satellites. Apparently that is possible from inside a standard house (that does not have a metal roof). At least, it is possible from inside mine!
Here is the proof: an image of the belt and sword of Orion. It was actually taken more than a year ago. Since the window glass was at an angle to the camera, there are numerous artifacts in the image. Another side effect of the angled glass is that the tracking required for pin-point stars was not uniform across the image owing to the effects of refraction through the glass. Hence, some stars are round but most are not.
