Inspired by cheekygeek's recent fine post of the massive sunspot group, I though I'd share shots of the recent eclipse.
JB Media | 20141023 Partial Solar Eclipse
I had to work that day, and the best I could do was to use small gear and an inferior filter.
Shooting conditions were poor. Sun low in sky, wispy hazy clouds, mostly over sun baked concrete with loads of atmospheric convection cells. Still got some acceptable shots and even got lucky and caught a plane silhouette.
Gear:
Tripod (no tracking)
Fotasy variable polarizer/dimmer set near maximum (weakest link in the chain, caused ghosting and red halation)
SMC PENTAX K 1:4/200
Pentax Rear Converter K T6-2X
Canon 60d
The best shots were at f22 effective (F11 + 2x teleconverter)
Photos 3 and 4 in the series are stacks of 18 and 22 frames respectively. Stacking was done in Registax.
