Normally they should work fine out of the box with the standard settings and only the gain and exposure time have to be adjusted according to the choosen guiding star and sky conditions. I have written a long description on Cloudy Nights

I'm definitely going to have to try using them at home. I couldn't get one going last night, so after fiddling with it for a good 40 minutes I gave up and didn't even bother with the other. I couldn't even get focus. All I got was a large hot pixel.

Maybe you were totally out of focus and so you saw no stars. Maybe you can approach focus on a far away street lamp and the refine it on a sky region with bright stars.

I would have to ''make'' my own star as there is no streetlight far enough away.

the streetlight is not needed to get exactly into focus but just to get near enough and do the rest of the focusing then on the stars. The Mgen guidescope does not need to be focused exactly. It works fine if it is a bit out of focus. Focus must be good enough to see stars in the liveview. but if the system is used for the first time with the camera mounted on the guidescope it is hard to find the focus just on the stars. Therefor the streetlamps as an intermediate step.

I was able to take just the MGEN and guidescope out and get some prefocusing done on stars through the clouds. Tonight was supposed to be clear. Unfortunately it was not clear at all.

Not sure what I am doing wrong. I have the exact same thing happen with both of them on all three iOptron mounts. It is the same thing that stopped me from using PHD and a laptop autoguiding. It overcorrects and trails my stars right off. I have the guidescope set at 200mm, gain 7, 900ms, in focus and it finds stars, but as soon as I hit autoguide the stars race right out of the screen. It does it on the IEQ45, ZEQ25, and SmartEQ Pro.

And you did a calibration with +90% result directly before you started the session?

Nope, thought it was plug and play like PHD (which did the same stuff to me). It has been clouds since then.

The calibration is essential. Should be done before each new image session and after the meridian flip. Maybe you want to follow the link in post #2 above to a decription I made on CN. It is post #100 there.

Got one of them running right now and the subs look good! Only doing 1 minute ones due to the moon being so bright, but it is on M53 as a test. The calibration was what I missed. ISO is down at 200.

One of the camera control cables is bad.

Meanwhile you should have gathered a bucket full of subs....I am very curious already.
