So I decided to get up at 0 dark early and try and shoot the 1st interplanetary launch from the West Coast. The launch was at 4:05 am on May 5th from Vandenberg AFB. The launch vehicle was a ULA Atlas V.
I situated myself on a hill in Anaheim Hills that would have a good view to the north west. As I've not shot a launch from here before I wasn't exactly sure where it would launch from. so it was a guess.
I used 13 x 3sec subs composited in Photoshop.
The second image shows the rocket going past Jupiter along with a meteor. 30 sec exposure.
I'm not sure what's causing the moire pattern in the 1st image. Any ideas?
Both shot with a K-1 and FA-J 18-35 @ 18mm @f/7.1
