Huzzah! I might finally have a break in the cloud lover that will last more than 10 minutes! According to
ClearOutside I should have clear skies from 2300 right through to the early morning - DarkSky suggests 0100 to early morning, so if I get up a few hours early for work (I'm usually up at 0500 anyway) I can go for a walk and hopefully grab a few shots!
Most of this is just me planning ahead but by posting it up here people can let me know if I'm doing something dumb or make suggestions :P Note that targets aren't necessarily realistic - I'm shooting targets of interest to see what I can and can't see with my equipment rather than simply trying to get good shots - I'm trying to establish a sort of baseline to work against when planning in the future
Target(s):
-Andromeda Galaxy [M31], N, nearest horizon 0500 - primary target - practice for stacking
-Arcturus, SE, 40° Elev ,anytime, may not be that interesting - secondary target - practice for focus
-Whirlpool Galaxy [M51], E, 70° Elev, anytime, likely difficult
-Veil Nebula, NE, 10° Elev, anytime, likely difficult
Expected Conditions: Clear skies/scattered clouds, low temperature (~1°C), moderate breeze (Beaufort 4), Class 6 bortle, 5 if I'm lucky
Shots: 10x frames per target
Equipment:
-28mm f/2.8 Vivitar (crop factor 1.52)
-75-300mm f/4.0-5.6 Sigma (crop factor 1.52)
-2x Teleconverter [NB: will likely introduce CA]
-Static heavy duty tripod (no tracking)
Exposure: 1" to 1/5s, f/8, ISO6400-ISO12800
Notes: Wind may be issue - consider using guy wires. Figure out where you left your bahtinov mask.
Development plans: Stacking and focus practice, start establish baseline with this equipment so I can realistically plan future targets. Start saving for O-GPS1 (you guys sold me on it!
