FoV on my 8” Newt is too narrow for the Andromeda Galaxy, the K-70/DA*300mm combo on the other hand is perfect
Mounted on my HEQ5 eq mount, stacked using DSS, pp in PixInsight. Approx. 1 hour of light (50-55 exposures) @ ISO800.

That's a whole lotta M31! Do you do any masking in your processing?

I use a mask to protect the galaxy when processing the background, not that I can provide any scientific explanation of how and why (not yet) I found this Youtube guide: showing a good result on the Whirlpool Galaxy.

I'll take snow over rain for photography. But at the moment it looks like my near by substantially darker site (bortle 5 from an 8 at home but a 45 minute drive) might be needing a visit saturday night, especially since I now can stay in the park until dawn.

OMG. I shudder at that video. He should be saving his file after every process change. Doesn't take much to screw up and hit the wrong button and poof your work is undone. And especially, he should be saving the final product as an .xisf file which is PI's native file format, as well as a tiff. Otherwise his tute is fine but he is right that there is more than one way to process an image.

Dust lanes could be improved, both via post processing and more photons, it's 50min in total.

Seeing this latest reprocess makes me feel less off base with what I get. I really should go and revisit my M31 shots from last summer with the A* 400/2.4 as it gives a great frame filling ability too.
