Back in the 80's, I bought a Pentax SF-1 film camera and used it up until 5 years ago when I jumped into digital with an K-3. I really liked taking star trails on slide film. The issue was that the battery would be toast and they were fairly expensive back in the day. I have been using a Rolleicord camera (circa 1958) to do some star trails, but I'm having issues with the camera and buying and processing 120 transparency film is relatively expensive (also have to mail it to the lab, which adds cost). I'm not a big fan of stacking 200+ images in post to get the effect neither. What I am contemplating is purchasing a used, fully manual camera, like the K-1000, to do star trails with it. The vintage glass is also a little more affordable for such a single purpose use. What experiences does anyone have shooting star trails with film? Are you shooting transparencies or negatives? How do you feel about shooting 35mm v. 120 format?
