For the K-r there is a quick and easy timelapse function! Firstly, set your picture settings as you would normally for a shot. I recommend using Manual mode with fixed aperture and shutter speed to avoid flickering. Then go to Menu > (Camera Icon) 2 > Interval Shooting. Just set the time interval and the number of images you want to take! You can also set the time when you want it to start as well.
REMEMBER TO CHARGE YOUR BATTERY. Can't stress that enough! So many times I wanted to do a night long sequence only to find out the next morning I only took 50 shots (rather than the 250 I wanted
)
For me the biggest question is the amount of editing I want to do with a time lapse. Usually if I know I'm not going to bother with much editing then I stick to 2M Jpegs (Just under 1920 x 1080 HD). Smaller images speed up rendering time substantially. I usually compile it first with
JPGVideo that easily turns the JPEGs to an avi file. Then I move to VirtualDub for other editing like what Chex has already discussed above.
For my next time lapse, I'm going to try working with
LRTimelapse for editing. I'll keep things posted for how well it goes.
