Interesting you mention police car. In North America for some decades now, manufacturers such as Ford, GM and Chrysler have made special police package cars. On the surface they may look like typical Ford, Chevy or Dodge sedans, but all is not what it seems to be on the surface. Suspensions are heavy duty/performance suspensions, cooling systems can have more capacity, electrical systems have more battery and charging capacity, Seats are heavier duty, back seats where the 'bad guys' will be, a lot of times will have seats covered in heavy duty vinyl, rubber covered, non carpet floors...all to keep damage to a minimum and to ease clean out with soap and water.
Also, high performance engines are optional in many.
Many years ago, my wife and I ordered a GM station wagon from the dealer, to be built at the factory. I knew the salesman from my youth and he was also a car guy. I wanted a high performance suspension, over size performance tires and the biggest engine available. The car came in and even my wife loved the way the car performed...it handled excellent, albeit with a bit of a stiff ride, the engine had a lot of punch, the shifts were crisp.
About a year after we bought our car, we were at a police fund raising benefit for disabled people. To our surprise we saw a vehicle just like ours in the military police. I talked to a MP sergeant and mentioned the similarity. He looked our car over, asked me questions about the options and indicated that somehow we had ended up with a police package.
