Last June, we downsized our three cars to just two. I traded my 2015 blue BMW M4 coupe for a 2018 BMW X3 M40i, and we sold wife Connie's 2012 Nissan Rogue SL - leaving us with two cars for the first time since 2005. By December, I was thinking about adding another car to the garage in part because I didn't like using my 911 Cabrio for a daily driver (for reasons practical as well as mystical), and three weeks ago I filled the empty spot in the garage with a new and blue BMW M240i coupe - essentially replacing the M4 as the new Mr. Blue. I've already posted pics of the car over in the Post Your Photos section, but I'll post some of 'em here, as well.
I picked the M240i because, with a wheelbase of 106", it's got that agile feel of my early Bimmers; before the M4, I owned a similarly-sized 2012 BMW 135i, which was the most fun to drive (up to now) of the five Bimmers (now 6) I've owned. Although essentially the same size as a Honda Civic, the M240i is a classic "three-box" coupe with rear wheel drive and is powered by BMW's B-58 turbocharged 3.0 L straight six (rated at 335HP and 369 lb-ft of torque from 1520 to 4500 rpm), connected to a ZF 8-speed slush box that is so quick and precise you'd almost think it's a dual clutch (our X3 has essentially the same setup). Of course, it's not as quick as the bigger M4 but doesn't miss it by much, and the little guy is far more fun to drive on public roads at speeds that will keep one out of jail - in part because BMW has had time to improve its electric steering and adjustable suspension technology.
