It really depends on what you are looking for, but personally I don't get much inspiration from the Yonge/Steeles area. For my non-nature photography I like to seek out remnants of the old City with its textures, faded colours, and the open landscapes along the waterfront.
The Downsview area would be accessible to you and will still have some old industrial buildings but I haven't scouted that yet. The area around the big box stores in Leaside has some surprising little pockets.
This building has been coverted to a storage facility but I think they have left some of this intact:
Edit: I was in that part of town just now and the conversion included covering all those distressed windows with siding. Much more energy efficient I'm sure, but a sad loss nevertheless.
Dupont is an interesting street:
Of course Kensington Market has neat atmosphere and street art:
And yes, any of the older cemeteries is good to explore

Or if you have a car you can always head north to the Holland Marsh:
In your immediate neighbourhood I would be looking for small nooks, signage and configurations that reflect the diiversity of the place.
