Yesterday was sparrow day at the blind. I'm starting to realize the birds are coming and going, and because I'm out a different times, and they come at different times, sometimes I assume they have migrated, only to have them turn up again 3 or 4 days later. There's a stump the arrows sit on thile assessing the situation. They sit for a while, then pick a spot and go for food.

Immature White Crowned Sparrow
It would seem my grackles have gone, but a Pileated Woodpecker has been seen 2 of th last 3 days, maybe I'll get an image of him soon. Also ,missing in action yesterday, White Throated and American Tree Sparrows, and adult White Crowned Sparrows. If I could I'd ask the immature guy above where his parents are I would. Do they have to learn a migration route from their parents or do they just go when it's time? We are going to be away from the house for a while. I find if you don't feed them every day the sparrows leave. Where as Chickadees and Blue Jays and other birds we suspect store 5 time more than they eat, can stick it out until we get home. So who knows if these guys will be here when we get back.
