Hi everyone,

This group has been fairly inactive for a while, so here's a quick attempt to bring some life to it.

Tomorrow night is a good opportunity to capture a photographic situation that happens rarely.

Location: Netherlands Carillon From this location, you can see the Lincoln Memorial, Washington Memorial, and Capitol Building tightly aligned.

Time: About 7:00pm. The full moon would have just risen and be about three degrees (six diameters) above the horizon and should be just above and to the left of the three monuments above.


I plan to be there to take a photograph. By my estimation, a focal length of about 200mm on APS-C format would be an appropriate framing. I welcome any Pentaxians to take advantage of this alignment.

Cherry Blossoms at their peak this week, anyone going to see them?

I was thinking of heading over to Arlington to see what I could see from there - I don't cross the Potomac.

Might get down there during the week, when the traffic isn't quite so bad; I heard it was nuts today.

I agree, I will try to go in the late afternoon, when everyone else is leaving DC.

If anyone's interested in the cherry blossoms at sunrise, I'm planning on being there tomorrow morning. The (crescent) moon rises shortly just before the sun, and from the MLK Jr Memorial or thereabouts, you should be able to see (from left to right) the Washington monument, sunrise, Capitol, moon, Jefferson memorial. Hoping to get a better version of a HDR panorama I shot many years ago.

How did the shoot go? I am hoping to get up there on Sunday and brave the crowds. better than missing out entirely.

I haven't gotten into DC as much as I'd hoped, too busy with work. With any luck, I'll get into the District soon to take pix of holiday preparation, and maybe celebrate the Nats as winners of the World Series.

I suppose you know what the weather forecast says... they're using the word, "severe".

I'm planning on attending the Nats parade and rally Saturday. It will be crowded. I doubt if I'll have much opportunity to change lens, so I'm wondering what would be the best single lens to count on:
choice include: 55-300, 50-135*, 18-135, I have others too.
what do you thing?

I will probably also carry my GR since it is small and would give a wider angle if needed.

18-135 is my favorite walk-around, but I'll bet the 55=300 is the best for closing in on the players during the parade. Use the GR for the wider shots below 55-300.

Hell of a win, the Nats deserve this parade, and several friends are long term Nats fans, so I am happy for them.
