To anyone interested--Saturday is a big day at Jamestown with lots of craftsmen and events:
Jamestown Day - Saturday, May 14 2011
Join us for the 404th anniversary of the founding of Jamestown in 1607 as England’s first permanent colony in America.
“Jamestown Day” at Historic Jamestowne begins with a kickoff at the 1907 Tercentenary Monument and continues with special living-history programs, tours and family activities throughout the day. Observe 17th-century military demonstrations by the St. Maries Citty Militia and learn about native lifeways of the Chesapeake. Share in the moment of new archaeological discoveries and meet the Jamestown Rediscovery team.
Explore three centuries of history through encounters with living-history interpreters. In the afternoon, listen to the music of the Cobham Consort in the Memorial Church or try your hand playing a period game. You can also observe blacksmiths working in James Fort and the craftsmen at the 1608 Glasshouse as they demonstrate the attempt to establish industries in the 17th century. Historic Jamestowne includes the Nathalie P. and Alan M. Voorhees Archaearium, an archaeology museum, the Visitor Center with museum and multimedia theater presentation, and walking and driving tours of the historic site.
This event is jointly presented by Historic Jamestowne, the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, and Jamestown Settlement.
Separate site admissions
Price:Admission is $10 for adults 16 years of age and older. Children 15 years and younger are free.
