Today was a 44% totality solar eclipse. I really wanted to shoot it, but lacked all the right stuff to make it happen... So I was forced to get creative.

By creative I mean using a Vivitar 2x Macro Teleconverter (which is pretty horrible in non-macro stuff), a DA 55-300, and a 780 IR filter. Somehow these came out all right, even using strange equipment. I'm actually probably happier that I had to improvise with no real hope of success, since when the shots came out... stellar... I was probably far more surprised and happy than if I would have had all the right kit, and a clue of what I was doing.
One downside is that the IR filter played some havoc with reflections. But even that oddly worked:
